Downtime

I'm hard pressed to remember when I didn't have to think about a project. Waking up and not plugging in an instrument. Or setting up a session. Gonna dig it for one entire week. wow

Gratitude for the downtime. I'm disconnected and lovin the space.

Headed to the park. Summer breezes needed. The music gets a bit much, but the marketing is only for the brave with too much free time.

artistic karma

I love art. All art. From fine to martial it is my life. I thought about the history classes I took regarding art in college. It was amazing to remember that very few artist received any acclaim during their actual life time. When they died they became popular and almost iconic LOL When among the living they couldn't get a sandwich for free from those very same admirers. Today it's the same. If u do make it, the very first thing one does is forget the community that supported them in favor of personal gratification. Yet the poor fans will die just to get a glimpse of the gaudiness in which this wealth is displayed. They love being abused and ignored. It actually gives the fans bragging rights. Wow Karmic comedy continues.

Hell how are the newer cats going to compete if the unit demand is the same as Sony? Artist better have trust funds or marry rich if you want to stay in the game.

Obama dissed as usual

I received an e mail today, from a lady who was very upset at what she perceived as a "snub" by the Russian Politburo. Apparently, there was no one interested in shaking the new president's hand but the few locals on hand after a meeting with Russia's president. She went on to further point out how that wasn't the case with prior presidents even during the cold war. I thought about it for a minute. What I responded with was that if you look at most of the written news media as well as television broadcasters, you can notice the way most don't even refer to the president as the "President". It's usually just Obama as though they're cut buddies from the hood. The title is often used in his case when there is a gripe or something he did or did not do becomes headlines. Then we're reminded he is the "President'. So to the lady let me say this. Steel and diamonds are forged through extreme heat. I think that the President will be just fine. Those with larger agenda's than spirituality or I.Q. never do more than feed on negativity. If they can sick dogs on protesters on television, beat the hell out of citizens, bomb the hell out of countries and still sleep at night, what else would you expect? Keep in mind negativity only is as strong as the weak allows it to be. Dissed as usual is the order of the day for those who want to hold on to the myth of the color blind society.

How often can you kill one man. M.J. can't get a break even in spirit. Damn, first there's this Elvis and M.J. television documentary. Give me a break. Elvis stole every piece of music his stiff ass could find. Then the Bashir 2 part "Living with M.J. documentary that he turned into a indictment, then claimed folks wanted to kill his( Bashir) punk ass. P.R. stunt. Who would waste sweat on that sissy? Finally the endless M.J. specials from the same corporate suits that ran him out the country. Yet they wonder why when the media calls me my answering machine says "kiss my behind, I'm busy being useful.

Creativity or Hubris

I wrestle with the landscape of digital everything. When I played at Electric Lady as a drummer, there came the onslaught of the electric drum machines. Acoustic nightmare as it were however, it's always about the bottom line with Labels. Quite a few cats had to drop the sticks and either learn another instrument or play in in the Mountains of eastern Europe. Some even turned vocalist, although I couldn't even think of singing lead unless the crowd is tone deaf.

Presently we've come full circle. The technology gives the artistically challenged, kings and queens of........ So I forge on with the band. We've been blessed with a measure of success that seems to be ever growing. Like Walfredo Reyes Jr. told me,"cream must rise to the top. Music has to come back to the masses". So we embark on a multi country tour, to send out this light. Render while trying to stay away from the narcissism of the "look at me" trip.

Finally it's about keeping the music different yet commercial enough to put butts in the seats. The artistic struggle of purity vs. practical in the land of capitalism on the decline. With the heavy dosage of social sites and television reality (LOL) shows, one must get seen or heard at any cost in orser to feel they exist. Subjective exposure to the extremes (Beyonce) that doesn't seem to require even thinking of giving back to the community that supported your work. Award shows, and Amos and Andrew comedy movies. Heavey terrain to navigate if you're speaking of being creative or actually different than the herd. I guess I choose the work. The way they're still dogging MJ. The public will watch you burn over and over, then look for the next victim. Hubris is a bitch. I choose creativity.
