Watching the fake sorrow towards a man they rushed to judge. Dogged him now trying to out blog the next one. Phoney ass folks. Brother MJ I hope u finally get the peace u sought. U def won't get the respect u truly deserve

MJ finally gets peace

The irony of those who scorned MJ. Wrapping themselves in judgment and self importance. Now the rush to embrace the grail of publicity to out sorrow the next. This biz sucks.

Undo the redo with the voodoo u do. it's music

Still enjoy the stillness

It's been a minute since the last blog. The preparations and marathon hours in studio gives me a welcomed sense of the surreal. There's a refuge I look forward to when I play. It's a personal experience in the lack of ritual and repetition. The newer cats have been weened on software. Correction in it's intent but highly depended on as a substitute for the actual effort. Sadly it's the order of the day. I'm usually tuned into the music from all over. Your ear has to go beyond your zip code. Older cats seem to entrench themselves on what they know also. I actually equate it to painting or sculpture. The organic relationship between artist and the rendition is the high. I'm a junkie for the high of playing an instrument. You don't have to be good, just be present. LOL

Trying to avoid being stampeded by the herd. Don't know where they're headed, yet they seem intent on getting there LOL.

Assembly lines and such

When I was a child, the young girls used to play with Barbie dolls. There was also a few with the easy bake ovens. Plastic boxes with a light bulb inside to heat dough. The fellas had G.I. Joe action figures which were actually dolls for guys LOL. I thought of this the other day while watching a demo video sent to us. The females seem to strive for that Barbie look with the pasted smile and super stiff gestures and the straight hair with blond highlights. It was then I thought of the music. Sampled digital synthesized sounds as though it came out of that easy bake oven. I mean you could close your eyes and imagine the songs just dropping off the assembly line. On the side of the fellas, everyone claimed to be harder and tougher than the next. However with few exceptions, the gear was the same. Boots, caps, and dog tags. Uniform without purpose but mandatory I imagine to sell the theme. G.I. Joe is back LOL. Is it that we're just hearing them come out with what they have in the first place? mediocre talent and extreme ambition? or does the times of originality and substance work on a strict cyclic regimen? either way those toy makers from the past now seem like prophets.

playing, praying, saying but mostly paying

Life again imitates art

The ages old adage of "life imitating art" has been realized again. The artist is painted as the tormented soul seeking purity in his/her craft. The outer world concerns such as bills, food etc. being this ever imposing obstacle. The craziness is that most artist don't have patrons to sponsor their efforts and arrange openings or premieres with the white wine set. So what to do? The music scene has again given us the folks who dress up in the urban gear(if that's what it's supposed to be) talking about street credit, and getting paid. Whereas the work is assembly line candy and video close ups of tats and perms with Blond streaks trying to give off the everyone look. LOL. With ninety dancers grinding out of beat to plastic beats. Point is that the industry is making an effort to package the struggling artist product. Truth is folks are out of work. Barely eating and scrambling for the bones of survival. Better get real or get going. Can't eat mp3's

Feeling good about the music fans of Israel reaching out.

TRIBE KONFUCIOUSKLAN WELCOMES ISRAEL FANS

We've been reached by the wonderful music fans of the state of Israel. The myspace band pages and fan sites have been hit with some wonderful comments. Didn't realize the fan base was so strong in the midst of the current climate. If it can be worked out we'll be there this fall. Proves that music can transcend polytricks
anywhere anytime anyhow. DH
tweaking the set list and being a monk LOL

Tweak obsession. Confessions of a wandering soul

Finishing the song list for both the tour set list and cd song catalog is a trip. I carry the music in my head,( bad move). This drives me to what I call the tweak obsession stage LOL. I've not met in all of my years doing this any, any, any artist that wished they could've taken a piece of a tune out and redo it until the hearts content. Everyone I know tells me the same thing. We're zapped with the " artistic" paradigm. Ironic because we hate critics. We shun them. However we absolutely dog our own work LOL. I will hear a tune I'm on and walk out of the room. So I'm hitting that curve of precious manic vision. Maybe I'll take up bag pipes. That's one instrument that seems to transcends too much scrutiny. I'm off to the music store.

Drumming it to the extremes.

Focus in the midst of the Gaga

We're getting a lot of projects on top of the scheduled tour and CD release due in July. I'm not complaining just thinking out loud. The musical biz landscape is definitely a trip. There's more websites devoted to sapping folks to take their funds and while giving them the American Idol fraud via Cyber world. Too many outlets for even less promise in talent. More head shots and muddy mp3 tracks imitating what passes from the realms of fluff. In any case the point is that to have the career we do and life I live is definitely a blessed one in effect but tremendous work. I thought of a cat that plays with the Dave Matthews band that said he could play every day without tire if he could forgo the things that encompass this craft. In any case what I believe is lost is the sheer simple pleasure of the creative process. Everything seems broken down to some home spun theory of it's true origin. Is it the artist or the toys? If one who reads this can simply keep that inner child going in your craft, regardless of how the landscape shifts you will come out ahead. worth the effort.
